Renowned record producer and music executive Don Jazzy has cleared the air surrounding his recent comments about "not making money" at record label Mo' Hits records were taken out of context on social media.

Speaking in a recent social media video, the Mavin Records boss clarified that his original statement referred strictly to the era's lack of digital streaming and publishing revenues, rather than a total absence of income.

He explained that during the label's split, he and his former business partner, musician D'Banj divided the company's assets equally.

"At the time that we decided to go our separate ways, myself and D’Banj owned the company 50-50, so we had to come to a compromise. So he was free to go with his catalogue, while the rest of the guys had to leave their catalogues with me."

Don Jazzy noted that the interviewer had asked if he made money prior to Mo' Hits, to which he responded that even during the peak of Mo' Hits, traditional revenue streams were vastly different from today's digital landscape.

"So when I said I didn’t earn anything from Mo Hits, streaming and publishing wasn’t really a thing, so we weren’t really making much money then. That is why I said that...

"But social media has made it seem like I never earned anything from the label. It's not like that. I'm just here to clarify," he said.
