'Start with President Tinubu' - Nigerians tell Education Minister going after fake degree holders

The Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman recently announced plans to go after Nigerians with fake degrees from foreign universities.

This was made known after an investigative journalist revealed how he acquired a certificate from Benin Republic in 6 weeks and got enrolled in the NYSC program.

As a result, the education minister said that security agencies would go after Nigerians with fake certificates from foreign countries whom he described as criminals.

Speaking during an interview with Channels Television, Mamman said people who secured positions with fake degrees would be pursued to the full extent of the law and that the time of the crime would not matter.

Mamman said, “If along the line, we can trace that there are people already in the system.

“For instance, if a particular institution or operator has been operating, say in the last 10 years, we will check if we can get records of Nigerians who attended that institution. Once we do that, they are criminals and you know there is no timeframe for criminality. We will trace them.

“As long as we can lay our hands on their institutions and they are right here with us, certainly, the security agencies will go after them because they are criminals.”

Reacting to his comment, some Nigerians ask the Minister to begin his investigation from President Bola Tinubu who has been accused of not having a certificate.

Some netizens wrote on X;

@brotherbarth: “The Tinubu's Minister of Education lacks moral ground to go after Nigerians with fake university Certificates, because Tinubu, his boss, submitted fake University Certificate to INEC.”

@collinek47: “Let him start from dere then we know he's doing he's job well. Abi”

@ajaGunSEgun: “First and foremost, you have to go after President Tinubu, who lied about attending Saint Paul School, Aroleya, Government colleges in Ibadan and Chicago State University first before you guys begin to go after others certificate forgers like Mr President.”

@iam_wilson: “Begin with Bola Tinubu,” to which @ElochukwuP said, “Yes let it stand (start) from the head,” and @dekezman01 said “Arrest Tinubu first,” while @benson_magbo said “Begin with your president! He's a certificate forger!”

@tjjones0079: “Then start with your INEC president, then we can take you serious. Corruption starts from your government,” and @BighomieRay asked, “Where does Tinubu stand in all of this? Is he in support or against?”
