The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience as they are working effortlessly to address the power outages in the country.

He said this during a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, March 11, 2024.

Adelabu noted that he is aware that the last three weeks have been difficult for the country with regards to the frequent power outages.

According to him, Nigerians would soon begin to sing praises of the ministry as the government is planning to increase power generation from the current 4500 (MW) to 6500 MegaWatts (MW).

“We are doing everything possible to make sure the situation reverses in no time. There is a crisis and the crises must be arrested. What we asked from Nigerians is to exercise a little patience to retain their trust and confidence in us that we can do this. Very soon, you will start singing our praises. When they accuse us now, when there is no power, it is very understandable because their complaints are legitimate,” he said.

Displeased at the poor performance of the electricity distribution companies, he promised to sanction any underperforming DisCos.

Adelabu further hinted that the ministry is planning to divide the coverage area of the DisCos to allow communities not served to be hijacked by other companies.
