The much-anticipated PlayStation 5 (PS5) console has been unveiled by Sony Corp on Friday ahead of the planned year-end launch.

The presentation gave a first glimpse of how games will look when played on Sony’s device which attracted more than 2 million views of its feeds on YouTube and Twitch.

The PS5 promises advanced graphics and shorter load times through the use of its solid-state hard drive.

As a result of the protests on racial inequalities that have roiled the United States, the online presentation was delayed by a week.

However, the PS5’s design has a predominantly white exterior in a departure from recent generations.

There are two distinct versions of the system. The standard PS5 and the Digital Edition, which ditches the familiar disc drive.

Spec-wise, It has an AMD Zen 2 CPU and AMD’s RDNA 2-based GPU, coupled with 16GB of RAM and an 825GB SSD — no word on whether that last bit will vary between models.

There’s also a separate HD camera accessory and matching Pulse 3D headphones, which feature that 3D audio Sony has long been pushing. Plenty more details to come — including price — ahead of the system’s launch this holiday season.
