Dr Reuben Abati, Arise Television co-anchor, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu and his government.

According to Dr Abati Nigerians have been punished for wrong articulation of policy since May 29, the day Tinubu assumed power.

He said this while analyzing Tinubu's leadership and policies, on Wednesday, August 16.

Recall that while Tinubu was presenting his first speech as President he announced the removal of fuel subsidy, a statement that he has repeatedly stated that there is no going back.

This policy led to the increment of food, transportation, others causing severe discomfort on Nigerians.

Recently, there were speculations that there would be another fuel increase in the coming weeks.

However, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, revealed that President Bola Tinubu affirms that there will be no increase in the pump price of fuel across the country.

“The President affirms that there will be no increase in the pump price of petroleum motor spirit anywhere in the country and that there is no need for panic at this time. We have enough fuel to supply the country.

We also wish to affirm that the president is determined to maintain competitive tension within all sectors of the petroleum industry,” he said in an address to the press.

Speaking during the analysis on the Morning Show, Dr Reuben Abati said;
“We were told at a time that market forces will regulate the market for pump price of fuel. Now, today, this market forces have been punishing us and we are just been told now that landing cost is 651 which is higher than the pump price fuel.

“Folashodun Shonubi, acting CBN Governor, said the President is concerned, Ajuri Ngelale yesterday said the President affirms. The president is concerned, the president is affirming, ok, what exactly is he concerned about, what exactly is he affirming. What is he saying gon? What is he saying? There should be clarity in terms of how they are approaching this particular matter.”

Abati further said, “people just take text book knowledge, they run with it, but they don’t even understand that they have not gone to school for, the relevant books they have not even read. When they meet IMF, World Bank, WTO people, they are the weakest link in the room because they don’t have the knowledge. What we are been told now is that since May 29 to date, Nigerians have been punished for wrong articulation of policy.”

Rufai Oseni on his part, believes that fuel subsidy was never removed. According to him, “Landing cost goes up to 651 but we are buying at the pumps at 580. Subsidy was never gone. It never went anywhere. The NNPC have a lot of explanations to make and they have not made to us. When Tinubu said he was going to intervene in petrol price and when he said that when he gave that palliative speech, I said that yes, it means that subsidy is going to remain. When NNPC is so quick to compare our prices with that of other African countries.”
