Former Paris Saint-Germain star Jerome Rothen has slammed Real Madrid Starman Kylian Mbappe over his recent comment on winning the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.
The French captain in his recent interview named himself as favourite to win the coveted award following his impressive individual performance last season.
The 27-year-old won the Pichichi in La Liga with 25 goals last season and also won the top scorer award in the UEFA Champions League with 15 goals.
The ex-PSG forward also won the Golden Boot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with 10 goals and ended the tournament as the player with most goals in the history of the Mundial with 22 goals.
Sharing his reaction on Mbappe's comment, Rothen hit back at the 2018 World Cup winner, citing his failure to win any major trophy for his club and country.
“Everything is calculated in his communication. I don’t recall that those who won the Ballon d’Or in recent years demanded it as much as he does,” Rothen said.
“Kylian, no one thinks you were the best player in the world last season. When you have not won a trophy of the year, shut up!”
