Shettima warns against demonizing Buhari over insecurity

Former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima has reacted to a viral video which showed a crowd booing the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), during a visit to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The President visited the state following the killing of 30 persons by Boko Haram insurgents Auno Village on Sunday.

Speaking on the reaction shown by the crowd, Shettima stated that it is because they had a high expectation of the President.

“People thought he (Buhari) has a magic wand. He does not have a wand. But I believe it’s temporary hiccups,” Shettima said.

He also advised against demonizing Buhari over the issue of insecurity in Nigeria. According to him, the fight against insurgency is more paramount than apportioning blame.

"We cannot just demonise Buhari. Buhari did his best and we had a respite between 2015 and 2017 before resurgence (of Boko Haram attacks). How to find a solution to our challenges is more important than demonising anybody," Shettima added.
