Shell commends pace of reforms under Tinubu

On June 17, 2025, the outgoing Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor and his successor, Marno de Jong, led a delegation from Shell to pay a courtesy visit on the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs Olu Arowolo Verheijen.

Mr. Okunbor praised the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for its bold and accelerated reforms, noting that the Presidential Directives have directly catalyzed new investments and revitalized private sector confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Okunbor also reaffirmed Shell’s long-term commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector and broader economic development.

In her remarks, Mrs Verheijen commended Mr. Okunbor for his inspiring leadership in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, particularly his efforts in championing local content, boosting investor confidence, and championing sustainability.

She noted that, as the only two-time chair of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, his leadership has been pivotal in fostering collaboration, regulatory clarity, and industry resilience over the years.
