Shekau labels Buratai a liar, maintains Boko Haram remains undefeated

The leader of the Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, has labelled the chief of army staff, Tukur Buratai, a lair for claiming that the insurgents have been defeated.

This is coming after a new video surfaced where Shekau vowed to attack the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retd.) if he ever returns to Maiduguri.

Recall that Buratai earlier said in an interview with The Cable that the military has won the war against insurgency as the Boko Haram militants do not control any territory in Nigeria.

According to The Cable, the army chief said the insurgents now feast on attacking soft targets “for the sake of propaganda” but Shekau dismissed his claim, insisting that Boko Haram insurgents are winning the battle.

“Buratai, I am addressing you in your own language. I am speaking your language but you may not understand it. You claim you have defeated us but it is a lie. You are a real liar,” he said.

He also mocked followers of Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and the Tijjaniyya sect led by Dahiru Bauchi, The Cable report said.

Shekau added that the people of Kano and Kaduna are in trouble.
