A notorious Boko Haram commander, Abubakar Shekau, has claimed responsibility for the deadly bombing of Maiduguri on Tuesday, February 23.

Channels TV reported that one of the most wanted terrorists regarded the deadly attack as a "milestone achievement" by his fighters in a newly released video.

Shekau also denied that his farm was taken over and claimed that he had successfully established an Islamic caliphate.

He also reportedly said in the video that he will never be on the same page with Muslims who "embrace Western values" even if they "pray the salat and give in charity."

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Borno state governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, confirmed that Boko Haram fired Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) into Maiduguri, the state capital, killing 10 residents and injuring 47 in the process on Tuesday, February 23.

Zulum made the comment after he visited two hospitals, State Specialist Hospital and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where the injured residents are receiving treatment on the bill of the state government.

According to him, the shots came from Kaleri, outskirts of Maiduguri, but the grenades travelled to hit Gwange and Adam kolo communities, both densely populated areas in the inner city.
