Sheikh Gumi names those supplying Boko Haram with sophisticated weapons

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has given a tip about those likely supplying Boko Haram terrorists with sophisticated weapons and technology.

In a Facebook post, Sheikh Gumi fingered foreign countries, highlighting external involvement in terrorism in Nigeria.

He wrote, "Boko Haram are largely rag-tag, poorly educated militants. Yet this raises serious questions: who is supplying them with sophisticated capabilities such as remote-controlled explosive devices? Who is providing real-time, satellite-based intelligence on the movements of our troops?

"These are not capabilities typically associated with such groups acting in isolation. The likely suspects include:
1. Foreign countries with advanced satellite intelligence and surveillance capacity, which could enable real-time tracking and operational support.
2. A precedent often cited is the 1995 Durbar Hotel bombing. In that case, Russell Hanks, an accused former U.S. envoy allegedly linked to the provision of a remote-control explosive device that killed journalist Bagauda Kaltho, declined to comment when confronted, stating: 'I can’t speak until the U.S. Embassy issues a statement.'

"These points raise legitimate concerns about external involvement and the sources of technical support available to such groups."
