Seyi Makinde urges Wike to avoid sparking unrest in Oyo state amid PDP tensions

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to refrain from inciting unrest in Oyo State.

Makinde's appeal followed Wike’s recent statement, where he threatened to cause political turmoil in states led by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors supporting Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in taking control of the party’s structure in Rivers State.

Wike made the remarks during the PDP state congress in Port Harcourt, warning against any attempt to wrest control of the party from his faction. "Not while we live will anybody take away the structure of PDP from us," Wike stated.

He went further to caution, "I hear some governors saying they will take over the structure ... I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states."

Singling out Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Wike threatened to bring sleepless nights to governors who challenge him.

However, during a gathering hosted by the Ijaw World Congress in Port Harcourt in honor of Wike, Makinde sought to ease tensions. He praised Wike’s contributions to Rivers State, while urging him to spare Oyo from any political disruptions.

"I told him I brought a peace offering," Makinde said, referencing his visit to Rivers State. "He had been boasting that he would put fire in some states. I asked him to please not set fire in Oyo State."

Makinde also acknowledged Wike's accomplishments during his tenure as governor, highlighting several projects completed under his leadership as reasons for his respect and recognition.
