Seven ESN members die in Army, DSS gun battle in Rivers

• Army authority has reportedly said that seven members of the ESN/IPOB have been killed in Rivers state

• The incident happened on Thursday, May 27, during a joint clearance operation

• According to the report, the security operatives also arrested five members of ESN

Not more than seven members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the Rivers community were killed in a joint clearance operation carried out with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), PM News reports.

The operation also saw the arrest of five operatives from the military wing of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), while arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

This was contained in a statement by the military on the night of Thursday, May 27, saying that the operation took place at about 6:15 pm.

The statement reportedly read: “6 Div in conjunction with Keystone, DSS and NSCDC led by Brigadier-General MD Danja conducted clearance/raid operations at suspected IPOB/ESN camp in Agbochia Forest along Pipelines Road Ogali/ Kom-Kom boundary between Eleme and Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers state."

The Army was also quoted to have said that the team came in contact with the IPOB/ESN members during the clearance/raid Operations.

It further stated that during the firefight, seven IPOB/ESN members were neutralized and 5 suspects were arrested.
