Nigerian senators have reportedly passed a vote of confidence on the Senate President, Godwill Akpabio.
This occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2024, following reports that his colleagues planned to impeach him.
On Wednesday, there were reports that the presidency had deployed a large number of operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) into the National Assembly Complex to prevent senators from carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, including a plot to remove Akpabio as the Senate President.
Akpabio also denied these reports, stating that the Senate remained united.
The presidency also indicated that there were no impeachment threats against Akpabio.
