Senate Vice Committee Chairman on Defence, Senator I. D. Gyang, has urged Nigerians to see their diversity as an asset or a liability depending on how it is managed.

Senator Gyang stated this at the 2020 WUSAL BEROM held at the National Christian Center, Abuja.

Gyang acknowledged the diversity of Nigeria as a nation and Plateau as a state.

He said, “We have multiplicity of ethnicity, religion and cultures in Plateau and Nigeria as a whole,” and warned that the mismanagement of such diversity is what births crisis.

The Senator added that conflicts are a direct product of the mismanagement of diversity in the country.

He noted that host communities can peacefully coexist with other citizens who exercise their constitutional rights of choice of residence if they in turn seek the good, well being and progress of their host communities including respect for the culture and traditions of the host communities.

He cautioned that for the sake of peaceful coexistence between host communities and settlers in their midst, attempts should not be made to distort the history of host communities.

He appreciated his Berom kinsmen for playing the role of good host to other Nigerians living in their land and urged them not to be weary in doing good particularly in building bridges of relationships and friendship with other nationalities not only in Plateau State but across Nigeria.

He equally appealed to Berom Youths not to abandon the artisan skills and expertise which they were known for to attract patronages from far and wide particularly now that white collar jobs are hard to come by.

The 2020 WUSAL BEROM Abuja witnessed huge turnout of participants including people from different ethnic nationalities across the nation.

Top personalities at the service include Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda of the FCT and Senate Minority Whip, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, Executive Secretary, Tetfund, Amb. Bagudu Hirse and the President, Tiv Cultural Organization worldwide among other guests.
