Kogi central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has stated that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers to commission projects in Kogi was in accordance with legislative procedures.
On Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan extended an invitation to Akpabio and other lawmakers to join a project commissioning ceremony in her state — two months after she returned from suspension.
Celebrating her second year in office this week, Akpoti-Uduaghan mentioned that she formally communicated with the Senate via the presiding officer, requesting her letter be read aloud on the Senate floor in accordance with parliamentary traditions.
“Today, as is customary for announcements of such nature, I wrote a letter to the Senate through the presiding officer to the Senate President to read on the floor,” she said in a statement.
“I put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures.”
This comes six months after the Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for flouting house rules. Shortly after the suspension, the lawmaker went on national TV to accuse Akpabio of maltreating her because she refused his advances.
