Senator Ayogu Eze from Enugu State is dead, The Punch reports.

A source who spoke to the media says he died after a protracted illness in Abuja.

He was 86-years-old.

The source said the late Senator has been weak and was unable to attend the wedding ceremony of his child held early this year in Lagos State.

Born in 1958, he was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) where he ran for the governorship position in the state.

He served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media in 2007 making him the spokesperson at the time.

After his reelection in 2011, he was appointed chairman of the committee of works.

Eze also served as a member of committees on Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport and Federal Character & Inter-Government Affairs.

In May last year, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Eze and five others as Federal Commissioners for Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC.
