The president of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has sponsored a mass wedding for 100 couples in his constituency.

The couples, who had their weddings over the weekend at the Central Mosque, Nguru, in Yobe state, were also considered for a skills acquisition programme, The Nation reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Lawan was commended by lawmakers in Yobe state for supporting the people of his constituency.

In a statement by the special assistant on press to the Senate president, the first batch of 100 couples from Bade and Jakusko local government areas had their mass wedding in September.

The new couples that were joined together over the weekend are from Nguru and Karasuwa local government areas of the state.

The next batch of 100 intending couples who are from Machina and Yusufari local government areas would be joined together soon.

All the six local government areas make up Yobe North senatorial district where Lawan is representing at the Senate.

In other news, a Nigerian man with the Twitter handle @SamSoja proposed to a lady he met on the microblogging site two years after sliding into her DM.

The lady identified with the Twitter handle @_Olayimika took to her page to make the disclosure on Tuesday, August 4.

She shared the screenshot of the conversation that turned out to be the beginning of their friendship.

The young man initiated a conversation on a Monday morning and admitted that he was sliding into her DM on Monday morning, a day that is generally known as the busiest day of the week.
