The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Kekere-Ekun appeared before the lawmakers in the Senate for screening as the substantive CJN after a letter from President Bola Tinubu was presented during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

The incoming CJN has been serving in an acting capacity since August, following the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

During the screening, Kekere-Ekun declared that all pre-election matters must be concluded at the Court of Appeal. She also expressed her disapproval of corruption in the judiciary, emphasising that she would not tolerate any form of it.

“All pre-election matters will terminate at the Court of Appeal. I have zero tolerance for corruption,” she stated.

Justice Kekere-Ekun expressed her commitment to leveraging technology for the swift dispensation of justice in Nigeria.
