The tragic death of Wale, the bodyguard of music promoter, Samson Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry, in a road accident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many expressing sympathy for the deceased’s family while others linked the incident to the controversial death of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad.
Sam Larry and Wale were involved in a serious road accident along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in the early hours of Saturday, July 4. While the music promoter survived and is reportedly receiving medical treatment, Wale died at the scene.
Videos circulating online showed the badly damaged vehicle involved in the crash, while another clip captured Wale’s wife, children and other relatives mourning his death.
Beyond the condolences, however, the incident reignited conversations surrounding Mohbad’s death in September 2023.
Many social media users described Sam Larry’s survival and the death of his aide as “karma” or “divine justice”, referencing allegations that linked the promoter to the late singer’s alleged harassment before his death. Others even expressed disappointment that Sam Larry survived while his employee lost his life.
One user, @semilore-anu11, wrote, “Sam Larry don sacrifice the bouncer again.”
Another, @FridayyG4ML, posted, “Mohbad spirit looking at God miss the chance he had to bring Sam Larry over there with him.”
Similarly, @dreamitagain wrote, “I pray Sam Larry feel x10 the pains Mohbad felt.”
Another user, @simplyjustine2256, stated, “Nobody should try to whitewash Sam Larry or push this sympathy edits. We saw in 4K how horrible this man was/is. He met his karma and that’s okay.”
As news of the crash continues to trend online, reactions remain sharply divided between those praying for Sam Larry’s recovery, those mourning Wale’s death, and others interpreting the incident through the lens of the lingering public emotions surrounding Mohbad’s death.
