Sales of unwholesome powdered milk must stop – LASCOPA

Descriptive purpose only Descriptive purpose only

The General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Mrs Kemi Olugbode, has said the sales of unwholesome powdered milk in open market in the state must stop.

Olugbode, at a senstisation programme held at Isokoko market, Agege on Tuesday said members of the public must also be discouraged from buying unwholesome milk in the open market because of the health implication.

“Milk is susceptible to air and odour in the atmosphere, if you place it beside an air freshener, it will attract the smell. Powdered milk being sold in open market is susceptible to the bacteria in the environment.

“There is no size of milk that you want that you will not find in the market, I wonder why our people will buy powdered milk that is exposed to air, bacteria and other unhealthy situations. The manufacturers have said that the milk are not meant for commercial use, they are meant for industrial use.

“There is really no reason for consumers to buy powdered milk that are opened except they are buying for industrial use. Many traders do not know the harm involved in selling powdered milk in the open market,” Olugbode said.

She said her agency had sent taskforce to markets in the state to ensure traders do not sell unwholesome powdered milk in open markets.
