'Reuben Abati needs to go back to school' - Wild reactions as Prof Ayade schools anchor on civilized communication

Arise TV anchor, Dr. Reuben Abati is currently making headlines on social media after Cross Rivers State Governor Ben Ayade instructed him on proper English grammatical usage.

Ayade during an interview on Arise News, stated that the APC's consultations on the selection of leaders for the National Assembly were not "romantic" enough.

It appeared that Abati did not grasp the statement fully and had to ask the Governor what "romance" had to do with the current problem.

In response to the anchor, Ayade argued that the word "romance" used in the statement was merely a figure of speech and did not denote the word's true meaning.

He added that when he used the word "romance," he was referring to the emotions the APC attached to the problem and how they tackled it.

He said: "And that is the elegance of English. It is the arrogance and sarcasm and the extrapolation of how to use grammar. It does not mean romance in the nativistic method…”

The Governor also gave Abati advice over the languages he occasionally employs, adding that some of the anchor's comments suggest that he has a particular agenda and are, in his opinion, unacceptable.

He said: "You use languages that are not polite, reject, defeated, in politics they say won and not defeateed, you use words that doesn't suggest civilized communication and in public speaking the choice of language matters, it shows the level of elegance, the level of scholarship.

"When you use words that are not intended to communicate decency, it depicts that you come with a certain mindset and I think it's an unacceptable language."

Social media users responded to the development by mocking Reuben Abati for his apparent ignorance of what they refer to as a simple word.

Many people have suggested that the anchor should return to school and enroll in a two-month English course in order to expand and enhance his vocabulary.
