Restructuring: Only NASS can make it happen - Presidency

Following calls from prominent Nigerians and socio-political groups for restructuring, the presidency has said that only the National Security (NASS) has the power to initiate a restructuring.

According to persons calling for a change in the system, not all regions in the country benefit as much as they contribute to the nation's growth.

Former president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, a chieftain of Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, and the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Audu Ogbeh are among persons calling for the restructure.

Reacting to the call, presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, said that without NASS approval, restructuring will not happen in Nigeria.

Garba however, urged the agitators to forward their appeal to the legislative arm of the federal government.

Bashiru advised persons who had submitted memoranda to the Senate committee on constitution review to meet their senators for enlightenment.
