'Resign immediately' - Senate President Akpabio told

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been called to resign after accidentally announcing to the world that the Senate clerk has sent a token to the accounts of the lawmakers to enable them enjoy their holiday.

On Monday, August 7, the Senate concluded the ministerial screening, and adjourn plenary till September 26.

However, unknown to the Senate President that they were still live on national television, the announced that tokens have been sent to their various accounts for the holiday.

Moments after making this known, Akpabio withdrew his statement and adjusted his comment.

He said; "In other to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the national assembly. I will withdraw that statement; in other to allow you enjoy your holiday, the Senate President has sent prayers to your mail boxes to assist you on your safe journey and return."

This didn't go down well with several Nigerians as they took to social media to share their disappointments.

Former deputy spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank on his part called for Akpabio to resign.

He described the Senate President's action as a show of shame, adding that he made a "a mockery of Nigeria's democracy."

"The show of shame that was demonstrated today on live national television where the senate under Akpabio was telling the whole world that they are going on vacation and the Clerk of the national assembly has paid money to every account of the Nigerian senators. This is the biggest joke we've seen in recent time (sic).

"But that is the main reason why I am making it bold and very clear Senator Godswill Akpabio must immediately resign as the senate president," Frank said in a video shared on social media.

He also called on President Bola Tinubu to tell Akpabio to resign following his national embarrassment.

"I use this opportunity to call of President Ahmed Tinubu to end this joke and Nollywood of Akpabio. This is the time, he the president must tell Akpabio to resign for this show of shame and national embarrassment."

According to Frank, it is insensitive for the lawmakers to enjoy the national resources, while Nigerians are facing economic hardship.
