Residents manhandle police officer caught snatching ballot box

A police officer on Saturday, November 11, was manhandled and paraded by residents of Imo state for allegedly snatching ballot box at a polling unit.

The incident is said to have occurred during the off-cycle governorship election held at the Amakohia Ikeduru Collation Centre in Imo State.

In a video making rounds, the angry residents slapped and dragged the police officer through the streets as they accuse him of snatching ballot box while polls where been conducted.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force has pledged to investigate the alleged involvement of one of its officers in ballot snatching during the governorship election.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, made this known on Saturday night via his X page.

Adejobi said, “The Nigeria Police Force is aware of the allegation regarding this supposed police officer purportedly involved in ballot snatching at the Amakohia Ikeduru Collation Centre in Imo State.

“We do not take this issue lightly as it bothers on the integrity of the force and the capability of its members to maintain election integrity.

“We, therefore, assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and we will update you ASAP. It requires a thorough investigation. Thanks.”
