The House of Representatives has said the committee report on the controversial Quarantine Act (Repeal and Enactment) Bill 2020, also known as the Control of Infectious Diseases Bill 2020 will be ready in September.

The report will be coming about five months after the bill was introduced and almost three months after a public hearing was held on the proposal.

There were reports that the House might have abandoned the bill, which generated public outcry when it was introduced by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Chairmen of the House Committees on Health Institutions and Health Services, Messrs Paschal Obi and Tanko Sununu, respectively, as co-sponsors.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday, August 16, 2020 Obi, said:

“When we resume, we hope that the report will be ready for us to read it as the committee of the whole. The report will be ready. We will not present it in piecemeal.

"The comprehensive report will be ready for presentation by the time we resume. But right now, we are on vacation; our annual recess.”
