Rep unveils 15-year development plan for Ogun constituents

House of Representatives House of Representatives

The member representing Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Gboyega Nasiru Isiaka, has presented a 15-year development plan that would usher in unprecedented prosperity in the sub-region.

The development plan was part of a presentation by the Rep member titled “Pushing the Frontiers of Prosperity in Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency” during a stakeholder engagement meeting held at Joga Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Reps member said the development of border communities, agriculture, industrialisation, microbusiness empowerment through loan grants, road construction, youth and women’s empowerment are central to the development plan.

The lawmaker said most of the ideas in the development plan align with the blueprint of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that they would be easy to achieve with the support and concerted efforts of stakeholders in the constituency.

According to Isiaka, although previous occupants of the representative seat for the constituency had all performed well, there was a need to significantly raise the bar of political representation in the sub-region.

He said, “Our size is 3798 km square, comprising 2,078km square of Yewa North and 1,711 km square of Imeko-Afon Local Government. That size is bigger than at least five African countries. It is bigger than Cape Verde, Mauritius, Comoros, São Tomé and Príncipe and it is almost four times the size of Seychelles. And we have a border. So, with our size and the border towns, we are almost a country without a constitutional power. There is nothing we dream of that we cannot achieve with God on our side.

“If we want to be open to opportunities, companies, and businesses, the roads have to be good. Connecting ourselves via road is tough; to move from Sunwa to Ijaka, Matale to Alarabakan, Alarabakan to Iwoye is very tough. We also need to utilise our land more to generate employment; unemployment is another major problem.

“Importantly also, the fact that we share a border with Benin Republic must amount to something, it cannot just be there. We share about 140km with Benin Republic within this constituency. There are other secondary things, but we need to face the primary needs of the people. We need to expand the scope of opportunities with Benin Republic.

“Our vision is to create an optimistic, self-confident, prosperous Yewa North/Imeko-Afon through the utilisation of our human and natural resources and operating within a democratic, open, and fair sub-national where opportunities and fair opportunities exist for all.”
