The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has warned that reckless users of social media won't go scot-free.
This was as he announced the arrest of two Nigerians for making alarming posts later found to be fake news.
Sharing on X, Onanuga said the police have arrested a man who made an alarming post about Abuja’s security, spreading fear among citizens.
"By arresting him, the police have sent the clear message that reckless users of the social media won’t go scot-free," the presidential spokesperson said.
Also, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, who allegedly originated the fake voice that circulated as President Bola Tinubu’s.
According to Onanuga, Dennis passed the audio off as President Tinubu’s voice to his gullible targets.
Onanuga revealed that Dennis was arrested in Benin.
An official statement is expected from the police soon.
