Report indicates that Maryam Shetty was withdrawn from the ministerial nomination by President Bola Tinubu on Friday, August 4, because she does not belong to the political family of Abdullahi Ganduje, the new APC national chairman.

Abdulahi Ganduje is the immediate past governor of Kano state and a key ally of President Tinubu.

According to a publication cited on Daily Trust on Saturday, August 5, Ganduje’s associates revealed that Shetty was replaced with Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano state because she (Shetty) was not in the former governor’s camp.

Another reason given was that Shetty had been vocal in the past against some of his policies for Kano state.

“A reason is that she is close with former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi and she was very vocal against his removal.

"You know she is very popular on social media, where she champions several causes, including women’s rights.”

On Friday, August 4, Shetty was at the Senate for her screening when she received the news that she had been dropped as a ministerial nominee and replaced.

She has since taken to social media to express her gratitude to President Tinubu for his acknowledgment and noted that despite the setback, she is convinced that the best is yet to come.

Maryam Shetty’s nomination was said to have been greeted with caused a stir due to her vocal personality on social media, especially Tik Tok and her ability to handle a ministerial position.
