Spanish giants Real Madrid have named Álvaro Arbeloa as the new manager to take over from Xabi Alonso.

Alonso was sacked by the club on Monday, January 12, after just seven months at the helm at Santiago Bernabéu.

The former midfielder was relieved of his duties following a 3-2 loss to arch-rivals Barcelona in the final of the Supercopa de España.

Arbeloa had been working as the coach of Madrid’s reserve team, Castilla, before his appointment to the first team.

The 42-year-old started his career in the Madrid youth system before spells at Deportivo La Coruña and Liverpool, before returning to the club where he played from 2009 to 2016.
