Provide a job for the widow of Nigerian beaten to death - Italian govt told

The Nigerian government through Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has asked the Italian government to provide a job for the widow of Ogorchukwu Alika, a Nigerian beaten to death by an Italian in the European country.

She said that the deceased was the breadwinner of his family while noting that the Italian police have arrested the alleged killer of Ogorchukwu Alika.

She made this known in a statement by NiDCOM Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Gabriel Odu, on Tuesday, August 2.

Recall, MyNigeria had earlier reported how 39-year-old Ogorchukwu was beaten to death by an Italian on a major shopping street in Civitanova Marche, a seaside town on the Adriatic Coast in Italy.

Reacting to the incident which happened last Friday, NiDCOM Chairman said that the Italian police were working and cooperating with the Nigerian mission in Italy to get justice for the victim and the culprit made to face the consequences he deserves.

The NiDCOM boss in the statement shared on her verified Twitter page said that "The suspect in the murder of Mr. Ogochukwu Alika has been arrested by the Italian police and is expected to be charged to court.

"Also, the Nigerian mission is requesting that the Italian government provides Mrs. Alika, the widow, a good job to cater for the family, being the family's breadwinner, now."

Meanwhile, Dabiri-Erewa thanked the Nigerian community in Italy, various organizations and individuals in Italy who have rallied around to support and raise funds for the late Alika's family since his death.

It was gathered that the deceased was a physically challenged Nigerian street vendor before he was brutally murdered by the Italian man who used late Alika's crutches to beat him to death.

The NiDCOM Chairman also said that the Canadian authorities have confirmed that they have identified a suspect believed to be involved in the killing of two young Nigerians identified as Tosin Amos Arowoshegbe and Chibueze Momoh at a Canadian nightclub while working as guards.

According to the statement, the Canadian authorities assured that they were working to get to the cause of the horrible incident.
