Protest: OAUSTECH staff disengagement not political, says management

The management of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State has declared that the sacking of some staff of the university did not have any political or religious undertone.

No fewer than 35 members of the staff of the university were reportedly sacked by the governing council of the institution leading to protests by the organized labour of the school.

In a statement issued by the Acting Registrar of the institution, Mr Idowu Omowole, on Thursday, the university said the matter would be addressed.

The statement read, ”The management wishes to assure staff, students, and the general public that the current disengagement of staff by the governing council of the university is being addressed.

“Management also wishes to inform the general public that the disengagement has no ethnic, political or religious colouration.

Management hereby reiterates to all stakeholders its unalloyed commitment to Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology’s mandate of excellent teaching, cutting-edge research, and strategic community engagement.

The workers of the university on Wednesday staged a protest, against the alleged dismissal of affected staff.

The protesting workers, who shut the school’s main gate and blocked the entrance, preventing people to go out or coming to the campus, were chanting various solidarity songs to express their bitterness over the development.

They vowed to continue to paralyze all academic and non-academic activities on the campus until the management reverse the decision.

A source in the university informed me that the protest was still ongoing on Thursday as some of the workers were still seen gathered in front of the main gate of the university.
