Prioritize your health - CIoD Nigeria urges corporate leaders

The Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria has called on business leaders, directors, and senior executives across the country to prioritize their physical health and personal well-being despite the escalating demands of corporate governance.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, by its Abuja Zone, the institute emphasized that sustained attention, sound judgment, and executive effectiveness rely heavily on maintaining personal wellness.

To champion this cause, CIoD announced its 2026 Walk for Life, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Millennium Park in Abuja.

"The annual walk reflects the Institute’s recognition that effective and sustainable leadership extends beyond professional competence and boardroom responsibilities to include personal health and wellbeing," the statement read.

Themed ‘Advancing Executive Wellness, Building Connections, and Inspiring Healthier Leadership’, the event aims to encourage busy executives to integrate routine physical activity into their daily schedules.

The physical exercise session will be led by the National President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIoD Nigeria, Adetunji Oyebanji, and hosted by the Abuja Zonal Chairperson, Rose Eshiett.

The institute highlighted walking as an accessible, high-impact exercise that helps improve executive cardiovascular health while offering an informal setting for peer interaction outside the boardroom.

Modeling Workplace Culture and NetworkingCIoD Nigeria also underscored the link between executive habits and broader organizational values, noting that corporate leaders set the tone for employee wellness programs and sustainable workplace environments.

"As leaders influence workplace values through their decisions and personal example, their commitment to healthy living can encourage organisations to give greater attention to employee wellbeing and the creation of healthier, more sustainable working environments," the institute noted.
