A private military contractor assigned to eliminate the threats posed by Boko Haram insurgents has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari halted the exercise immediately after he took power in 2015.

Speaking in an interview with Nija Eye International, Eeben Barlow said his outfit was about to wipe out Boko Haram when the order came to stop the operation.

According to him, the strategy was to take on one of Boko Haram’s main camps, followed by their hideout, which was exactly what was carried out.

He noted that this occurred during the 2015 presidential election, adding that former President Goodluck Jonathan at that time wanted to announce the end of the insurgency after winning the election.

Unfortunately, he lost the election to President Buhari who he claimed was allegedly funded by the United States of America.

Barlow in his interview hinted that the campaign manager that led President Buhari’s campaign was from America.

In an attempt to help Nigeria, put an end to the Boko Haram insurgency, he wondered why it wasn’t a priority to the recent government who stopped the operation from ridding the country of one of its worst menaces.

“We mapped out one area in the south was a start, and when that is done, we mop out in the north. The division will follow occupy terrain. We will train the division and instituting defensive positions etc, but we were never allowed to execute the entire operation.

So, in one month, we took back terrain larger than Belgium from Boko Haram. We were not allowed to finish because it came at a time when governments were in a process of changing president. Jonathan’s government possibly saw the entire Boko Haram’s contract as a last resort in other to regain popularity.

The incoming president, President Buhari was heavily supported by a foreign government, and one of the first mission was to terminate our contract. We were told it was the United States and they had actually funded President Buhari’s campaign. The campaign manager for president Buhari came from the US but I am not saying the United States is bad, I understand foreign interest but I would have thought that a threat such as Boko Haram on the integrity of the State of Nigeria ought to be a priority,” he said.
