President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the immediate deployment of 6000 troops to Zamfara to help in fighting banditry which has ravaged the states for months.

Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle made the announcement in a broadcast to residents of the state on Tuesday evening, March 9, 2021.

“In the fall out my discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari and the security higher commands in Abuja, it was resolved that 6000 additional troops will be deployed to the state.”

The directive from the president comes days after Governor Matawalle revealed how a community in Zamfara state resisted an attack by bandits recently.

The governor who spoke through his deputy chief of staff, Bashir Maru, on Friday, March 5, said villagers in Ruwan Tofa community resisted and killed some of the bandits, who attacked them on Thursday, March 5.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Governor Matawalle expressed his readiness to resign his position as the state's number one citizen if it means things get better in the state.

The governor said he is ready to step down if that will restore security in the troubled northwestern state. The governor made the comment after the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) asked security agencies to investigate him.

The demand was made by the influential northern group after Governor Matawalle declared that he had been able to figure out sponsors of banditry in Zamfara state.
