Presidency goofs, says Tinubu is first African leader to ring the bell at Nasdaq

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, has come under fire after saying that Tinubu was the first ever African president to ring the Nasdaq Closing Bell.

Recall that President Tinubu while in New York for the 78th United Nations General Assembly visited the New York stock Exchange where he urged U.S. investors to invest in Nigeria’s bubbling market.

While posing with several distinguishes personalities, Tinubu rang the closing bell alongside the President of the U.S.-Africa Business Center (USAfBC) at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Scott Eisner.

However, on Thursday, September 21, Ngelale received criticism after he released a statement commending Tinubu for being the first African leader to ring the closing bell.

Other African leaders who have been reported to have rung the Nasdaq closing bell include; former Tanzanian President, Jakaya twelve years ago, on September 21, 2011 rang the bell.

Also, former President Goodluck Jonathan joins other leaders to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange, NYSE.
