President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan has called for more urgency in the handling of coronavirus the deadly disease that has been fast ravaging Europe.

At the plenary session today, the Senate President noted that the Federal Ministry of Health was not doing enough to curtail the spread of the virus.

He warned them not to take the virus for granted as prayers alone cannot solve the problem. He urged health agencies to work with prayer in this matter.

“While the Federal Ministry of Health and associated agencies may be doing their best I think this best is not good enough and we should not take anything for granted. We are a prayerful nation. When we pray we should work with prayer," Lawan said.

Going further, the Senate President called for high scrutiny of passengers at seaports and airports. He beckoned on the Health Committee to make sure that people coming into the country are thoroughly screened.

“We must take all the necessary measures at our seaports and airports. People should be screened and be quarantined. The Committee on Health should engage with the Federal Ministry of Health that people are screened when they come into our country," he added.
