Former Nigerian Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, has shared his thoughts on the need for power shift among the various zones in the country.

Ahead of the 2023 elections, there has been uproar on the issue of zoning especially the South East and the South West calling for a power shift to their respective zones.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, IBB as he is popularly known, is of the belief that zoning the presidency is in the best interest of the country.

He stated that the country needs to decide on the way to go; on whether or not democracy should continue to be practiced or redefine it to suit their understanding.

According to him, regardless of where the person comes from, the zoning will happen either now or later.

On the other hand, he charges Nigerians to be aware of the candidate’s belief, and qualifications before throwing in their support towards such a person they want as a leader.

“We have to make a choice, either we want to practice democracy the way it should be practiced or the way it is been practiced, or we define democracy in our own whimps and caprices. If we are going to do it the way it is done all over the world, you allow the process to continue but it is through the process that you be able to come out with a candidate that will lead the country.
His qualifications, beliefs should be known to Nigerians before the person throws his hat into the ring,” he said.
