Police in Zamfara resist bandits attack kill scores

An armed attack on Dogon Large community in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State was foiled by Zamfara State police agents.

The operation, which took place on Sunday along the Gusau-Sokoto road, saw many bandits killed after a four-hour standoff with the police.

The criminals meant to steal unsuspecting passengers of their valuables, but were promptly repulsed by police tactical operators sent to protect the route against any attack by armed robbers, according to a press statement issued by the command's spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu.

According to the statement, many of the bandits were seriously injured, with some of them escaping with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

Shehu went on to say that the police command had properly cared for the bodies of the bandits killed.

He stated that the road had been cleared for automobiles and other road users, and that a strict confidence-building patrol had been increased to avoid traffic jams.

“Tactical operations, including special forces soldiers, are still patrolling the nearby woodlands to make sure the fleeing bandits have been apprehended or killed,” he said.
