Police have failed, Nigerians will bear arms soon - Akeredolu warns

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has said that the failure of the Nigerian police will soon caused the citizens to pick up arms to protect themselves.

His comment comes in the wake of the Owo Catholic Church massacre that left several people dead and other injured in an attack by gunmen.

Rotimi who also serves as the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum said this whiles delivering his speech at the the opening of the ongoing Attorneys-General of the 36 States.

He noted that the police blamed their inefficiency on the unavailability of vehicles which is needed to carry out their duties.

According to him the police force is overwhelmed with various activities happening across the country.

Akeredolu urged other states to set up their own anti-graft agencies.

“The Police have failed.

“We will carry arms very soon. Oga Malami. There is no other way.”

However, Nigerians are raising concerns as to the level of brutality civilians experience in the hands of the police officers whose duty is to protect the lives and properties of citizens.
