The Nigeria Police Force reportedly dispersed supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents the Kogi Central Senatorial District, following their protest at the National Assembly in Abuja.
The protesters gathered at the assembly gate as early as 8:00 am, coinciding with the resumption of plenary and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
They held placards with inscriptions such as “I stand with Natasha”, “Akpabio must go”.
The protest, which started peacefully, turned chaotic when police officers deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd, causing protesters to run helter-skelter.
However, the protesters have now relocated to the Unity Fountain in Abuja to continue their demonstration.
The protest follows a clash that occurred on February 20, 2025, between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements in the Senate chamber.
As a result, Akpoti-Uduaghan in an interview on Arise TV accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and claimed she was being targeted because she rejected his sexual advances.
