Photo: Man, 42, drowns after swimming pool accident in Anambra

The spokesperson for the Police command in Anambra, Mohammed Haruna has confirmed that a 42-year-old man has drowned to death in Onitsa.

The man, identified as Izuchukwu Achusim, reportedly drowned at the Lotus Garden hotel at 8:30 pm on Saturday, August 15.

Haruna said the sad incident occurred after, Haruna, who was a guest at the hotel went swimming with his girlfriend.

"The victim who was said to be drunk jumped into the deepest part of the pool and got drowned. The hotel manager and other guests pulled the victim out and rushed him to waterside hospital Onitsha for medical attention but he was later certified death by a medical Doctor on duty" Haruna said in a statement.

Haruna said the police was immediately alerted and the body was photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

According to Linda Ikeji Blog, the case is under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Haruna appealed to members of the public who lacked swimming skills to always take precautionary measures by using life jackets provided at the swimming pool in order to avert similar ugly incidents.
