Kassim Afegbua, Edo State Commissioner for Information, says former presidential candidate Peter Obi should have informed the state government before he arrived in the state following his attacks.
Afegbua made this known in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.
His comments come following attacks on the chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other party chieftains.
Recall that there was an alleged ‘assassination attempt’ on the former Anambra state governor and other members of the ADC in Edo state, a development which has sparked reactions in Nigeria.
Afegbua also said that Governor Monday Okpebholo was misinterpreted when he made a speech last year asking Peter Obi to seek clearance from him before entering the state.
“People misinterpreted what Governor Okpebolo meant when he made the statement in July last year, to the extent that anytime Peter Obi wants to come to Edo, he should please inform the state government.
“But because Obi is a politically exposed person, we would expect that he would extend the courtesy of informing the government of the day.
“What happened in Edo should be located within the ambit of the ADC—one factional group of the ADC versus another faction of the ADC,” the Commissioner said.
