The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has said he is richer than the President of the United States, Joe Biden who is worth an estimated $8 million according to Forbes.

The former Anambra governor made the statement as he spoke to a full hall of Nigerians in the diaspora in Washington DC.

Using the Biden analogy, Obi reiterated his commitment to protecting the public purse should he be elected president of Nigeria in the 2023 general elections.

He said to a cheering audience, "why should I steal" when I am richer than President Biden?

Peter Obi, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gained an organic following and endorsement of young Nigerians in the country and in the diaspora ahead of the polls.

Speaking on a three-nation tour of Canada, Germany, and the United States, Obi, has one different occasion stated how he hopes to address Nigeria's pressing challenges which include, insecurity and the recent economic outlook of the nation.

He, however, has a big hurdle as he will contest the February elections with more than 10 other presidential candidates including political stalwarts, former vice president Atiku Abubakar and the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

"If I should take public money that I am not entitled to then God should punish me, not because of anything, but God gave me enough. More than my fair share."

"I told somebody the day U.S President Joe Biden was sworn in that why will I steal public money? This is a president of America that just declared that he is worth $8.9 million why should somebody like me from a 3rd world country steal public money when I am richer than the American president"

"Why will do that? he quizzed. Adding that he is not "looking for a private jet or sophisticated house."
