Lawyers of Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party have appealed to the presidential election petitions tribunal to adjourn the hearing on the electoral suit filed against President Bola Tinubu following his victory at the general poll.

Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, are in court to contest the outcome of the presidential election which produced Bola Tinubu winner as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Lead counsel for Peter Obi, Awa Kalu today, requested the court to adjourn the case until June 1, as a result of the illness of two lawyers on his team.

A.B. Mahmoud, representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun (representing Bola Tinubu) and L.O. Fagbemi (representing APC) did not object to the application.

Mr Mahmoud however, asked the court that Tuesday’s hearing should be counted among the days allocated to Mr Obi and the Labour Party to argue their case irrespective of the adjournment.

Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani accepted the plea and adjourned the case until June 1, 2023.
