Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has said that Peter Obi cannot reclaim his mandate because he is not claiming to have won the election.

Speaking in a video shared on his Twitter page, Omokri said that Peter Obi's petition was based on Tinubu's drug trafficking allegations in the US and that Vice President Kashim Shettima had a double nomination as a senator and vice president which bars them from contesting the election as stated in the constitution.

Omokri noted that Obi’s election petition currently before the Tribunal is worthless and must have been deceived by his lawyers.

According to the former aide, politics cannot be won with emotions but rather logic and that Obi calling for a rerun cannot become a reality as the constitution states that a rerun can only take place between the first and second presidential candidate.

Omokri said;

“I think a lot of people especially in the south east of Nigeria are very emotional. You can’t win politics with your emotions. Politics is a logical game; you’ve got to be strategic. This idea of Peter Obi will reclaim his mandate… Peter Obi himself is not claiming that he won the election. Go and read the petition. So, if you’re saying that how can he reclaim his mandate? The man himself who you’re placing all your hopes is not saying that he won the election. What he is saying is the petition is that they should cancel the last election that was held on February 25, 2023 and hold another election. The foolish thing about this election is that he is asking for a rerun. If you check the electoral act, a rerun can only be held between the first and second runner-up. So, the man’s petition is completely worthless. I don’t know if his lawyers are deceiving him.”

Recall that President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared as the winner of the presidential election. He beat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party who came in at second place and Peter Obi of the Labour Party who came third.

Both Atiku and Peter Obi are currently challenging the outcome of the presidential election.
