The Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has clarified that reports suggesting he recently met with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, are false.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra state, explained in a social media post on Wednesday morning, September 24, that the pictures and the stories that accompanied them were fabricated with the intent of misleading the public.
He maintained that if he had met with Trump and MC Oluomo, he would have shared the details on his personal social media page, adding that his politics had never been private and that he was not seeking cheap publicity.
Obi's supporters react to his post
Shortly after his post, some of his supporters took to the comment section to blame the supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for pushing the narrative.
Below are some of their reactions:
Lord Foster claimed:
"The desperation of the APC and their cohorts is laughable. Imagine relying on Photoshop and fake stories just to stay relevant. What a shame. Instead of solving erosion, hunger, and insecurity, they’re busy cutting and pasting pictures like jobless internet fraudsters.
"This is what happens when a party has nothing left to offer: propaganda becomes their only achievement. Nigerians are not fooled; no amount of fake photos can cover the reality of empty stomachs and broken promises. APC, keep entertaining yourselves with doctored images. The people are awake, and your bags of rice won’t save you forever."
Alexanda claimed the pictures were AI-generated:
"Mainly looking at the pictures, one should know it's AI because you don't wear that kind of colour. APC boys no sabi this editing things"
Opeyemi Clement tackled the presidential hopeful:
"So, u sabi debunk? If you be Tinubu, you for don arrest many people on this internet."
Joe said the picture is propaganda:
"The APC recently needed 'good propagandists'; they probably have resumed duties."
Vivial expressed confidence in Obi:
"That second picture was created to tarnish your image. I know there’s no way you would visit that motor park tout."
