Peter Obi breaks down in tears after losing election to Bola Tinubu

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party broke down in tears while addressing the media in Abuja on Thursday, March 2 following his defeat at the 2023 presidential election .

During his question-and-answer section, Peter Obi was almost in tears while sharing an encounter he has with a young girl.

According to him, a young girl tried to assist him to boil water to make his tea but he insisted on doing it himself.

He said, the young girl began to weep. When he asked why she was crying, the lady said she feels sorry that he lost the election.

He proceeded to ask her what school she attended; the lady replied that she went to the University of Nasarawa and graduated school in 2018 but has since failed to secure a job.

Peter Obi noted that he enquired from her about her plans and she said she wanted to start her catering business but can’t afford to buy an oven which cost N75,000.

He suddenly broke down in tears as he said that this young girl is one of the reasons, he decided to contest the election, to build a new Nigeria.

Emotional Peter Obi stopped his speech for some seconds to readjust himself. He then reiterated that he is obeying the electoral process that allows him to go to court to challenge the illegalities of the election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday, March 1, declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress the winner of the election.

Bola Tinubu polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to beat his contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The Chairman of the electoral commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu yesterday, also presented the Certificate of Return to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Explaining his next move, he noted that he will head to court as the election did not meet the electoral process.

He revealed that he plans to challenge the process conducted by INEC at the election held on Saturday, February 25.
