Nigerian livestreamer and content creator Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, has ignited intense online debate after demanding the return of a ₦1 million cash gift from a beneficiary whose reaction he considered unenthusiastic.

The incident occurred during a live broadcast on Monday, August 31, 2026, when Peller invited a local groundnut vendor and her daughter onto his stream to discuss their trade. Upon learning that the mother operated her entire street business on a starting capital of just ₦3,000, the creator asked what price she would take for her entire stock.

When the woman jokingly named ₦1 million, Peller immediately transferred the sum to her bank account live on air and asked them to verify receipt of the funds.
However, the gesture quickly turned tense when the daughter responded with a muted expression rather than wild celebration. Visibly offended by the lack of emotion, the creator announced that he was sending his bank details for them to transfer the money back.

"If I were the one receiving a gift, I would express genuine excitement and thank the giver in a truly special way," Peller explained, prompting the young woman to repeatedly apologize and plead with him to let them keep the donation.

Live social media donations in Nigeria have become heavily dependent on dramatic, highly emotional reactions, which creators rely on to drive viral views, clips, and engagement metrics across platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
