Pay us N500m for the death of our son, slain vendor’s family writes Gbajabiamila

Gbajabiamila has been asked to pay N500m Gbajabiamila has been asked to pay N500m

Following the death of Ifeanyichukwu Okereke, a vendor, who was killed by a trigger happy aide of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, his family has make a huge demand from the lawmaker.

The family, to drive home their demand hired human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN).

Specifically, they are demanding N500 million from the speaker.

According to This Day, Ozekhome was given the mandate to write to Gbajabiamila by the father of the deceased, Okorie Okereke; and the younger brother to the deceased, Destiny Okereke.

Meanwhile, many people have reacted to the latest development. Among those who reacted are Richard Akinola, a respected journalist and lawyer.

He wrote:

"The family of that shot Abuja vendor may end up losing everything if they continue to toe the path of seeking for a N500 million compensation. So far, Speaker Gbajabiamila has acted commendably. Immediately the incident happened, he personally issued a statement, expressing his regret and he handed over to the relevant authority, the erring security aide, for appropriate disciplinary action. "He followed this up with a condolence visit to the widow, where he promised to take care of the widow and the education of the children, in addition to taking care of the burial expenses. To me, that is a proper thing to do. "But from out of the blues, the father and brother of the deceased, approached a lawyer, demanding from Gbajabiamila, N500 million as compensation for the killing of their son. "They are not even interested in the killer facing prosecution, it’s the mercantilist-driven demand that is their concern. N500m bawo? Did Gbaja kill their son? N500m ko, N5billion ni. "If they are not careful, they may end up losing all, because Gbajabiamila can say since he is being taken to the court, all should wait till the case is disposed off before he can do anything for the family."In his reaction Femi Onibonoje, wrote:

"They are not serious. They would lose everything at that rate, even the public sympathy. How did they arrive at 500m in the first place? Who did the valuation of their son's life. They better don't toe the line. It is an unfortunate incident, and we feel deeply sorry for them."Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Josephine Okereke wife of the newspaper vendor who was killed by Gbajabiamila's security aide has demanded justice for her husband.
